Intangible Assets

« Back to Glossary Index

Intangible assets are non-physical assets that lack a physical substance but hold value for a business. In the context of business valuation, intangible assets are an important component of a company’s overall worth. These assets are distinct from tangible assets, such as buildings, machinery, and inventory, because they do not have a physical presence. Intangible assets may include goodwill, intellectual property, customer relationships, brand value, contracts and agreements, software and technology, employee knowledge and expertise, and research and development.
